Gauhati University Journal of Philosophy (GUJP), a peer reviewed annual research journal of Philosophy, publishes its third volume as RUSSELL SPECIAL NUMBER in December 2018. Original articles on relevant areas may be submitted at editorgujp@gmail.com by 31 Aug. 2018.
About: The department of Philosophy established in the year 1948 is one of the oldest departments of the University. It has been ceaselessly working on emanating philosophical ideas, classical and contemporary, Indian as well as Western. The Department insists on developing analytical and critical approach to problems of philosophy. The department has shifted to semester system with effect from the academic session 2000-01.

Thrust Areas of Study: Indian Philosophy – both classical and contemporary, Analytic Philosophy, Continental philosophy, Philosophy of Mind, Philosophy of Religion, Moral Philosophy, Applied Ethics, and Modern Logic.

History: The department has reached its present state with the invaluable academic contributions from eminent scholars like Dr. Rakesh Ranjan Sharma, Sri. Bhabananda Dutta, Smti. Nilima Dutta, Professor B. Pahi, Professor K. Saratchandran, Professor K. Bagchi, Dr. A. P. Rao, Dr. K. R. Patnaik, Professor G. C. Khan, Professor K.C. Das, Professor M. K. Kutty, Professor D. K. Chakravarty, Professor Nilima Sharma, Professor S. S. K. Singh, Professor Sibnath Sarma and Professor Girish Sharma.

Objectives: To educate students in the Indian as well as Western philosophies keeping in mind the contemporary global trend in development of Philosophical ideas. To create an environment for the flourishing of a philosophical spirit. To help develop a critical and analytical outlook among students. To provide education based on epistemic, aesthetic and spiritual values for the holistic growth of persona among students.

Research Activity: The Department publishes its own research journal Gauhati University Journal of Philosophy (GUJP) a peer reviewed journal recognized by UGC.

                Admission Process:    For Graduates from G.U. 60% weightage on Philosophy Major marks and 40% weightage on Entrance test (E.T.).

                                                       For Graduates from other Universities 100% weightage on Entrance Test.

                                                       E.T. will comprise a combination of 60% MCQs and 40% Descriptive questions.

Announcement

Bertrand Russell published his famous work The Philosophy of Logical Atomism in the year 1918 (The Monist). Gauhati University Journal of Philosophy decides to dedicate its next volume, to be published in December, 2018, to discussions and deliberations on Russell's philosophy of Logical Atomism and other relevant issues with a view to commemorating the hundred year completion of the publication of The Philosophy of Logical Atomism.

Articles and other writings related to the the topic and/or the philosopher may be sent within 31 August, 2018 to editorgujp@gmail.com
