The Department offers a 4 - semester postgraduate programme in psychology and a Doctoral. programme.
MA/ MSc Programme
This programme includes both theoretical and practical work. The course is completed within 4 semesters. The student sits for an exam at the end of each semester which includes 4 papers. Apart from regular classes, course work comprises of two unit tests, a seminar paper in each subject, two assignments for each subject and field studies. Internal assessment is based on performance on the tests and presentations. Each paper carries 100marks ( 80% external exam & 20% internal assessment ).
Students with BA degree, majoring in Psychology, Philosophy, Education, Home Science, are eligible for admission. There is also quota for medical graduates (MBBS, BAMS, BHMS) and nursing graduates (B.Sc. Nursing). All candidates are required to appear in a written selection test, conducted by the Department, comprising of one paper of 100 marks and 1hr. duration.
The test consists of three parts -
Part I - General Knowledge
Part II - Basic concepts of psychology
Part III - A Psychological Test.
The intake capacity of the department is 20 students.
Ph. D. Programme
The admission procedure and eligibility are as per Gauhati University norms.
