Regular Academic Events of the Department

• Prof. V. Venkata Rao Memorial Lecture: A grateful University Community resolved to pay their respectful homage to Prof. Rao by instituting the Professor V.V. Rao Memorial Lectures. The first Memorial lecture was deliberated by Pro. C. A. Perumal, Emeritus professor, University of Madras on 25 Nov. 1994. Subsequent lectures have been delivered by eminent personalities and academicians like Dr. Najma Heptullah, Dr. Asghar Ali Engineer, Prof. Ranabir Samaddar, Ms. Mrinal Pande and Sri Arun Jaitley, Sri Kuldeep Nayyar, Sri Madhu Kishwar and Prof.Egoshae Osaghae (Nigeria).
• Occasional Lecturers: .The Departmental has organized occasional lecturers on important issues from time to time, which have been delivered by renowned academicians with national and international reputation. In the last recent past Dr. Asghar Ali Engineer of the Centre for the Study of Society and Secularism, Mumbai, Professor Manoranjan Mohanty of Delhi University, Professor Prabhat Patnaik of Jawaharlal Nehru University and Professor Rameswar Rai of CSDS, Professor Sumit Ganguly of Indiana University, USA, Prof. Andre Betteille, Chairman, ICSSR and Chancellor, NEHU visited and delivered lectures in the Department.
• Academic Seminars/Workshops: The department has been actively involved in organising seminars/conferences/workshops on important socio-economic and political issues. A few of them held in the recent years are:

1. Youth in Human Resource Development: Jawaharlal Nehru's Contribution, January 1991.
2. Promise and Perils of Judicial Activism, April 1997.
3. Ethnicity and Ethnic Conflict in the North- East, February 1997.
4. Constitutional Review Commission: An exercise in sanity or subversion, March 2000.
5. A seven-day UGC sponsored workshop on Human Rights and duties education ,2001.
6. Coming out of Violence- An ICSSR sponsored National Seminar on Ethnic Conflict in the north East, 2002.
7. International Dialogue on Political Parties, sponsored by IDEA in collaboration with CSDS, June 2006.
8. State of Human Security in North East India, a National Seminar sponsored by North Eastern Region Union Bank Employees Association, November 2006.
