The Department also has provision for conducting research in various fields, leading to a Degree of Doctor of Philosophy.

Short-Term Programme

NET/JRF counselling

The Department offers academic counselling and study materials to students interested in qualifying for the National Elligibility Test (NET) and Junior Reseach Fellowship (JRF) examination conducted by the UGC.

Fieldwork with partners in collaboration

In an effort to enhance the students' skill of practical fieldwork involving collection, documentation and description of language data, the Department has entered into collaboration with linguists from Summer Institute of Linguistics (SIL), National Scientific Research Centre of France and Research Centre for Language Typology of Australia.As part of the initiative, several MA students have been carrying out linguistic fieldwork on Mizo, Tai-Turung, Adi-Galo, Singpho and Ahom along with experienced field linguists from these organizations.

Personality and skills development

The faculty makes conscious efforts to build confidence in the students and develop their inner creativity through an interactive teaching-learning methodology which involves group-work, brain-storming and presentation. Students are offered guidance in enhancing their speaking and writing skills to enable them to face the demands of a competitive job market.
