Programmes/Activities

The cell has produced textbooks in the areas of Science, Literature, Arts, and Commerce. Department has not yet produced books for postgraduate courses. In addition to this, the Publication Department has published doctoral theses and other valuable books. It has also produced Science an Arts Terminologies.

GUPD has now taken up updation work on the Scientific glossary and a few learned publications like ‘Mahabharata’ and ‘Chandra Kanta Abhidhan (3rd Edition)’.

Publications

The University Publication Department has to its credit 366 titles excluding reprint/subsequent editions of 168 books till now. Over and above 114 title learned books) were also published till to date. This Department has produced four degree level Hindi textbooks. Some books are under print and a few manuscripts are under preparation.

Sales

The GUPD has its own sales counter. The books are sold to the customers from its wholesale depot situated at GU Publication Department, Gauhati University, Guwahati-781014 on cash payment.

A commission of 20% s allowed to the customers/registered forms if the total price of books purchased at a time exceeds Rs. 1000.00.

The sales counter remains open from 10.00 a. m. to 3.00 p. m. (Saturday from 10.00 a. m. to 12.00 noon) except on Sundays and GU Holidays.

Salient Information

The most outstanding work of GUPD are printing of ‘Swaralipit Namghosha’, reprint of ‘Chandra Kanta Abhidhan’, ‘Guru Charit Katha’, ‘Mahabharata’, Hindi textbooks, theses, ‘Jikir Aru Jari’, ‘Asomiya Bhaskar Upabhasha’, etc.

GUPD has taken up the updation work of the existing Degree Level Textbooks meant for 1+1+1 courses.

In order to make GUPD a vibrant and income generating Department of this University, report of the restructuring Committee is also under considerations of Executive Council, GU.
