Archival Cell

The K. K. Handiqui Library, GU has about 4500 valuavle manuscripts written on Sachipat, ula pat and paper and these manuscripts have been preserved in the manuscript section of the Archival cell of the Library.

The Post-Graduate students of the Assamese Department, GU, Post Graduate Correspondance School, GHU, and other institutions and research scholars of various disciplines outside Gauhati University use these manuscripts.

The following persons/Institutions have donated their manuscripts to the K. K. Handique Library for preservation:

National Mission for Manuscripts, Govt. of India

The National Mission for Manuscripts (NMN) constituted by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, Government of India has designated the K. K. Handiqui Library as a "Manuscript Resource Centre" (MRC) to act as a nodal agency for fulfilling the noble aims and objectives of the Mission in the state of Assam. Moreover, the Library has also been designated as a "Manuscript Conservation Centre" (MCC) to carry out the preservation and conservation works of manuscripts, to impart training and other conservation related works. Two MOUs have been signed between the NMM & the GU for this purpose. Accordingly under the coordinatorship of Shri B. Goswami, Librarian I/C, the works of KKHL MRC & KKHL MCC are running smoothly throughout the State. So far 32 awareness campaigns and 10 conservation programmes in different institutional as well as private repositories have been conducted. Altogether 1901 manuscripts have been conserved through preventive conservation methods in 10 conservation programmes. The following memners of the KKH Library have been trained in preventive conservation and Trainers training in Indian conservation Institute Bhubaneswar and National Museum New Delhi:

The above persons have trained other subordinate staff to form the conservation team.

Text Books Corner

Considering the cnecessity of the P. G. students of the University a separate Text Book Corner has been opened in the Library. These text books are not lent out but provided for consultation within the premises of the Library on production of Library Identity Card.
