PROGRAMMES
The Department offers a 4 - semester postgraduate programme in psychology and a Doctoral. programme.
M.A.PROGRAMME
M.A. Programme in History consists of 4 Semesters of 400 Marks each (altogether 1600 Marks). Out of 16 courses, 12 courses are compulsory. Group options (Ancient, Medieval Modern, indicated by 'A','B' and 'C' respectively) are offered in the 4 remaining courses. A candidate must opt for the same group in all the optional courses. Ph.D Degree
The Department has also been conducting research work in various fields of historical study with particular emphasis on the North-Eastern region. The specialization offered at the post-graduate level in Ancient, Medieval and Modern period of Indian History is tp facilitate research in the various areas. Till date around eighty scholars of the Department have been awarded the Ph.D. degree. At present six teachers are actively engaged in supervising research work and projects funded by organizations like ICHR have also been undertaken.
M.Phil Degree
M Phil Course in History being necessary for scientific and objective research in the region and also in view of the fact that it is an essential minimum degree for employment in college, the Department has felt the urgent need to introduce the programme in a short time..
Short-term Programmes
The Faculty of Arts, Gauhati university has approved the following career-oriented course to be implemented by the Department:
- 9 month Diploma Course in Heritage Studies of N.E.India
- 6 month Certificate course in Crafts of Assam
- 3 month Certificate course in History and Culture of N.E.India
(Justification: To acquaint administrative officers posted in the region with its history and culture and to provide employment opportunities for the young generation.)
