HISTORY

The Department of Education started in 1948 was installed in the magnificent Arts Building. It was shifted to the (present) new building in February, 1990. The total land area is about 4024 Sq.Ft.. It is situated in calm and quiet academic environment. Previously the B.T. College was attached to the Department which managed to train a good number of teachers of Secondary School.

An Education Extention Service Department was also functioning under the Directorship of Prof. B.C. Kar. The Programme of Education Extention in Rural Areas were undertaken by the Department satisfactorily.

Due to certain policy decisions of N.C.E.R.T. the Extention Service ceased to function. In 1974 the Deptt. have to stop the B.T. Classes. From 1988 the M.Ed. Courses started in the Department. M.Phil Courese started from 1998.

There is a sweet reminiscence of revered teachers like Prf. D.C. Das Gupta, Prof. B.C. Kar, Prof. Nirode Mukharjee, Prof. Bhabananda Dutta, Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, Mr. Tulsi Charan Das and Mr. Biren Kr. Talukdar.
