ADMISSION PROCESS :
This is done in two stages – a written entrance test comprising both objective and essay-type questions followed by a viva voce for those who qualify in the first stage. In addition to marks obtained in the written test, due weightage is given also to academic marks obtained by the candidate in HSLC, HSSLC and bachelor degree final examinations at the viva voce.
Adequate and necessary weightage will also be awarded to the students who qualify to the viva voce level if they can produce authentic documents in support of some exposure to mass media-related activities such as articles, features published in established newspapers, magazines, participation in TV / Radio programmes, anchoring, computer literacy etc. This will be decided at the sole discretion of the viva voce panel.
GENERAL AND ‘PAID SEATS’ :
The first 20 seats will be filled up from the normal merit list. The remaining four ‘paid seats’ will be filled up from the waiting list in order of merit. This latter category of students will be required to pay double the normal amount of fees paid by the main merit list candidates.
But, this should be kept in mind that both the categories of students will have to qualify in the entrance test for admission.
ADMISSION NOTIFICATION :
Admission notification for MA Mass Communication programme is also announced along with other postgraduate programmes of GU and the prospectus is the same for all the Master degree courses. So, interested candidates should keep an eye on the GU admission notification which usually comes out in July.
SEATS FOR STUDENTS FROM OTHER UNIVERSITIES :
There is a provision for allowing up to 20 % of the available seats to graduates from universities other than GU. In case of our department this comes to five.
