  • 1984 : UGC National lecture series and Regional seminar.
  • 1986 : 1st UGC Refresher course conducted by the department.
  • 1989 : Dr. Alaka Buragohain (now Retd. Professor) visited UK under UGC Cultural Exchange Programme.
  • 1990 : Dr. Narendra Lahkar, Prof. &HOD was awarded British Council Fellowship for advance study in Information Studies at Sheffield University (UK).
  • 1992 : NEC-Sponsored major Bibliographical & Documentation Project on NE India was started at the department to prepare computer readable format with Prof. Alaka Buragohain as Director and Prof. N.N. Sharma & Dr. N. Lahkar as Dy.Directors.
  • 1992 : Department celebrated its Silver jubilee to mark the completion of 25 years of its existence.
  • 1994 : Prajanma (wall magazine) was introduced.
  • 1999 : Prajatne (departmental directory) was started.
  • 2000 : A state level seminar on "Changing trends of librarianship with special reference to N. E. India" was organized on 2nd February.
  • 2000 : A special MLISc course for working College Librarians was conducted.
  • 2001 : A four day IFLIBNET Training Programme on Library Automation was organized.
  • 2001 : 2nd UGC Refresher course was conducted with UGC-ASC, GU.
  • 2003 : 3rd UGC Refresher course was conducted with UGC-ASC, GU
  • 2005 : 4th UGC Refresher course was conducted with UGC-ASC, GU.
  • 2006 : A self funding MLISc course for working librarians was conducted.
  • 2007 : National Seminar on Problems and prospects of Rural libraries of NE India jointly organized with the Central Reference Library, Ministry of Culture, Govt of India Kolkata during 27-28 March.
  • 2007 : Proposed to organize PLANNER, National Convention to be sponsored by INFLIBNET, Ahmedabad during November 2007.
